Obon trip

At the end of Obon I went to visit my mother-in-law in Shimonoseki.
It was really hot but we decided that at least once we should go somewhere nice and cool. We managed to convince one of the Aunts to come along as well.
The first stop was near a small waterfall.

There was a little pool at the bottom of the waterfall. It was a bit rocky so it was predominantly occupied by kids.
For lunch we had somen noodles. You can also eat it flowing on a bamboo pipe-thing. But the cafe near the waterfall didn't have those. Somen is nice in the summer because it's served cold. However, this portion was way to big for me.
Next stop along the way was near the Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory. We didn't go up but instead ate some ice-cream while enjoying the view. The recommended flavour was 夏みかん - summer tangerine. It was extremely delicious.
We dropped by the souvenir shop and bought some presents to take back home with me. There were a lot of owls, cats, frogs and the like made out of local stone. There was also a fish-tank filled with small pebbles. They were either given away for free or you could buy a whole bag for a small price.
It was still early so we went to the Hinoyama Observatory to waste some time before dinner. Somewhere in the distance you can see my mother-in-law's home. On the left is Moji and on the right Shimonoseki.
