Sushi, Fireworks, thunderstorms and shopping

Hey, it's a second post in a row. Well what do you know, I'm on a roll :)

The Saturday right after I finished work there was a huge fireworks festival on Sumidagawa river. Obviously, we had to go see. Since it was a special occasion we decided to hang out all day.

First we went to the fish market. Eric wanted to go at 5 in the morning, but in the end it was more like late noon. Hahaha
Apparently, this is what wasabi actually looks like.

Behind us is one of the market streets. We had lunch in a random sushi place. Maaaan, it sure was expensive.
My favourite thing to try apart from unagi is usually salmon. Especially lightly fried salmon. I think it's called あぶらサーモン. This one had some cheese on top too. This stuff just melts in your mouth. The best!!!

We decided to drop by some famous cafes in Akihabara.
This is us trying to do a girl group pose.

After some more goofy posing we went to get some drinks.

Next we went to Asakusa, where the main event of the day was being held. The fireworks actually can be seen from several bridges, but going to Asakusa seemed like the best idea.
The girls bought yukata. They look so cute. (This photo reminds me that I should really edit mine. For some reason if I edit them in iPhoto, the changes don't translate when I upload them here. So I thought it's pointless. But I should figure out a way.)

There was a huge amount of people. We were moved in groups to get onto the bridge. You couldn't stop for very long and had to keep moving. Lots of policemen with megaphones were yelling stuff I couldn't figure out. But it was probably along the lines of - Keep moving!
The area was brightly lit, as to avoid accidents with so many people on the go. Generally speaking there was no way to see the fireworks until you could get onto the bridge. And even then because of the bright lights it was difficult.
Haha fail. We wanted to have some impressive stuff behind us. But the timing was off.

I couldn't get any good pictures because of the lights. But also it was not that impressive to me. Maybe it's the fact that we couldn't watch it in darkness? Or that the fireworks themselves were so far away?
Of course one major thing was that about half an hour into it there was a thunderstorm. So it's not like we could see much.
We had to keep moving of course even in the rain.
Yeah, not so fun when you're all wet.

So we trotted to the Sky Tree tower.

Yay, shopping. Out of necessity.
 And food!

We were so hungry. It's been a long time since lunch. We were hoping to get festival food, but with all the rain it was not possible. Everyone thought the same so all the restaurants had huge lines. We chose one that looked like the easiest to get into. Even so it was close to 10pm by the time we could eat.
Hey is that an outfit change? Why yes, it is.

 Hehe. Eric is hilarious.
